Co-owned animals
Record an animal that belongs to more than one owner, and set each owner’s share.
Last updated 1 day ago
A co-owned animal has one record and one breeder. Ownership is a separate list of members, and optionally a non-member, whose shares add up to 100%. The first member in that list is the primary owner. The registration fee is charged to the primary owner when the registration is approved, unless the reviewer charges a different member. Every member on the list is an owner: their name appears on the animal, and they can open the animal from the member portal.
Add a co-owned animal while registering
Open Registry → Register animal and start or resume a draft.
Set the batch Owner and Breeder. The owner you pick becomes the first owner on a new co-owned row, at 100%, until you add someone else.
Open the menu beside Add row and select Add co-owned. If a co-owned table is already on the page, select Add co-owned animal under it.
Fill in the animal the same way as any other row: name, sex, and date of birth are required.
In Ownership under that row, select Add co-owner for each additional owner.
Search for each member. Each member can appear only once.
Check the percentages. They must total 100% before the animal can be saved.
Adding a co-owner splits the current shares evenly. For two owners that is 50% and 50%. For three owners the shares are even, with any remainder placed on the first owner. Change a percentage by editing its % field. The line under the list shows the total and turns into an error until it equals 100%.
Remove an owner with the trash icon on that row. Removing an owner does not rebalance the others. If only one owner is left, that share returns to 100% and the animal is no longer co-owned.
On review, the ownership list is read-only and shows each owner with their percentage. Select Edit records to change the split, then continue again.
The other rows in the same draft can stay with the single batch owner. Only the rows you add as co-owned use the ownership list.
Include a non-member
Only an administrator can put a non-member on the ownership list.
On that owner’s row, set Type to Non-member and enter their name, email, and phone. Members registering from the portal can only choose other members.
Change ownership on an existing animal
Open the animal from the registry and edit Owner(s).
Select Add co-owner to add a share.
Search for the member, or set Type to Non-member.
Edit the percentages until Total ownership is 100%.
Remove an owner with the trash icon on that row.
Save the animal.
The first member in the list remains the primary owner. Members can see the owner list on their animals, and they cannot change the split themselves.
Where the owners show up
The animal list shows every owner on that animal, separated by commas. Opening the animal shows Owner(s), with one field per owner when there is more than one. A co-owner who is a member can view and edit that animal in the portal, the same as the primary owner.
