Transfer a co-owned animal

Move a co-owned animal to a new owner, or to a new group of owners.

Last updated 1 day ago

A transfer replaces the animal’s entire ownership list. It does not move one co-owner’s share and leave the others in place. Every current owner is recorded as the seller. After approval, only the owners entered on the transfer remain. To keep a current co-owner, add that person to the new list with a share.

The same new ownership list is applied to every animal in the batch. Ownership does not change until the transfer is approved.

Submit the transfer

  1. Open Registry, then select Transfer on the animal list.

  2. Search by registration number, name, or tag, and add the co-owned animal. You can add more than one animal. Each one will use the new owners you set below.

  3. Under New owner, set who should own the animal after the transfer.

  4. Choose the transfer type and effective date, and add notes if you need them.

  5. Select Submit for review.

Set the new owners

The new owner starts as one person at 100%. That makes the animal solely owned after approval, and every previous co-owner is removed.

Select Add co-owner when the animal should stay co-owned, or become co-owned under a new group. Search for each member. Each member can appear only once. Percentages must total 100%. Adding a co-owner splits the shares evenly. You can edit a % field after that. Removing an owner does not rebalance the others. If one owner is left, that share returns to 100%.

An administrator can set an owner’s Type to Non-member and enter that person’s name, email, and phone.

The first member in the new list becomes the primary owner.

Transfer details

Field

What to enter

Transfer type

Pedigree or Commercial. Export cannot be selected.

Effective date

The date the ownership change should take effect. Required. It defaults to today.

Notes

Optional note stored with the transfer.

Submitting creates a pending transfer for each animal. The confirmation says how many requests were submitted. The current owners still own the animal until someone approves the request.

What the reviewer sees

Open the request in To Process → Transfers.

Transfer from lists every current owner. When there is more than one, each name includes that owner’s share.

Transfer to shows the first owner in the new list. The request still stores every new owner and percentage from the form. Approving applies that full list, not only the first name.

On the confirm step, choose the transfer fee. The fee follows the animal’s sex and the amounts in Member Fees. It is charged when you approve, to the first current owner, unless you charge a different member or a non-member. A non-member fee is invoiced.

What approval changes

Approving the transfer:

  • Replaces the old ownership list with the new owners and percentages.

  • Sets the first new member as the primary owner.

  • Records the previous owners, including each co-owner’s share, on the ownership history.

  • A member who is no longer an owner can no longer edit the animal, unless it still belongs to someone on their farm.

  • Each new member owner can view and edit the animal in the portal.

Rejecting the transfer leaves the current owners unchanged.
