Origin Member Portal subscription
A member pays Origin directly for edit access in the portal. Membership dues stay with the organization.
Last updated 1 day ago
Origin Member Portal is the member’s own subscription. It is billed to Origin at $7.99 / month or $76 / year. The yearly plan is labeled 20% off vs monthly. Society membership dues and invoices are billed separately, through the organization’s payment settings in Set up online payments.
A member can sign in and browse without this subscription. Adding animals, submitting registrations and transfers, opening Search Database, and using the Marketplace require an active subscription.
Which portal pages exist at all is set under Settings → Member Portal. Those switches are in Configure the member portal. A subscription does not turn a page back on after an administrator has turned it off.
What the member can do before subscribing
On first sign-in, after the member finishes their profile and membership type, Origin asks them to choose a plan.
They pick $7.99 / month (Billed monthly) or $76 / year (20% off vs monthly).
Continue with free access leaves them on the free plan. They can subscribe later.
Subscribe for $7.99 / month or Subscribe for $76 / year sends them to checkout. The button matches the plan they selected.
How a member subscribes later
The subscription page is Account → Member Settings → Member portal subscription.
The section is Origin Member Portal. Until they subscribe, the page says they can browse in read-only mode, and that subscribing lets them add animals and make registry changes.
Under Billing, choose $7.99 / month or $76 / year.
Select Subscribe.
Complete checkout.
When checkout finishes, the page confirms Origin Member Portal subscription updated. Leaving checkout confirms Checkout cancelled.
Status then shows one of these:
An active plan shows Renews on with the next billing date. Manage subscription opens billing, where they update the card or cancel. Cancelling keeps access through the end of the period they already paid.
Billing history lists each invoice with Date, Description, Amount, Status, and Invoice. View opens that invoice. Before the first charge, the page says No invoices yet.
Where the portal asks them to subscribe
Locked actions open a prompt with Subscribe · $7.99 / month or $76 / year, which goes to Member portal subscription.
Search Database shows Subscribe to Origin Member Portal to view full registry database.
Marketplace in the sidebar opens Activate your portal to use the marketplace. Activate portal starts checkout. Learn more opens the subscription page. Return to dashboard leaves the prompt.
Starting a registration opens Activate your portal to register the organization’s animals. The same Activate portal button starts checkout.
The marketplace prompt lists Marketplace listings and registrations as what the plan unlocks. The registration prompt lists registrations and Marketplace listings.
People on the same farm
An active subscription on the farm’s primary owner covers the other people on that farm. They can add and edit records, search the database, and use the marketplace while that subscription is active.
A registry member on the farm can also subscribe on their own account. That subscription covers their own login.
Someone who has farm portal access and is not a registry member cannot buy the subscription. The portal tells them The farm’s primary owner needs an Origin Member Portal subscription before you can add or edit records. They are asked to have that primary owner subscribe from Member Settings.
App Store subscriptions
A member who subscribed in the Origin app is billed through the App Store. The subscription page says Subscribed through the App Store. Manage in App Store opens Apple Subscriptions, where the receipt and cancellation live. Billing history in Origin stays empty for those purchases.
While that App Store subscription is active, checkout on the web tells them This Origin Member Portal subscription is billed through the App Store. Manage it in Apple Subscriptions.
When a member is not asked to subscribe
Some organizations include full member portal access, so members are not shown this page. Their portal can add and edit records without a personal subscription.
In a demo organization the subscription page is visible and payments are turned off. The page shows Payments are disabled on demo accounts. Contact Origin to upgrade to a full account.
A member who is On hold stays read-only even with an active subscription. Removing that hold is in Grant or revoke member portal access.
