Getting Started

Set up the registry the first time you sign in, then add members and animals.

Last updated 1 day ago

Origin creates the organization and emails the first administrator. The subject is You're invited to administer the organization. Select Accept your invitation, create a password, and sign in. The same invitation is used when you add more staff later. Those steps are in Create a staff member.

The dashboard sidebar is To Process, Registry, People, Financials, and Settings. Menu names follow the organization label. If the label is Association, Society details reads Association details.

A Registry Administrator can change settings, fees, and billing. A Secretary can process registry work and member records. In a demo organization, Online Payments, Member Portal, and Manage users are visible and cannot be changed.

Set up the organization

Do these once, in this order. Each link is the full procedure.

  1. Organization profile. Open Settings → Society details → Details. Set the name, logo, contact details, organization label, and registered breed. The steps are in Add key organization settings.
  2. Membership dues. Open the Membership Settings tab. Add membership types, set each fee, and choose the renewal date. The steps are in Set up member dues.
  3. Registration and transfer fees. Open Settings → Member Fees. Set the amount charged when a registration or transfer is approved. The steps are in Set up registration fees and Set up transfer fees.
  4. Online payments. Open Settings → Online Payments. Connect Stripe so members can pay dues and invoices, or leave the organization on manual payments. The steps are in Set up online payments and Connect a Stripe account.
  5. Member portal. Open Settings → Member Portal. Choose which pages members can open, and set the home page banner. The steps are in Configure the member portal.
  6. Public application. Open Settings → Application. Copy the application link and publish the form people use to join. The steps are in Configure the member application.
  7. Staff. Open Settings → Manage users. Invite the people who will process registrations or handle billing, and review what each role can do. The steps are in Create a staff member and Staff roles and permissions.

Add people

Open People.

  • Members → Member submits an application for someone who should join. They appear on the member list after you approve them in To Process. The steps are in Add a new member.
  • Invite emails a link so they can create a member portal account. The steps are in Invite a new member.
  • Farms → Farm creates a farm. A farm can also be created while you add or invite a member. The steps are in Create a farm.

A member can browse the portal before they subscribe to Origin Member Portal. Adding animals, submitting registrations, searching the full database, and using the marketplace require that subscription. How it works is in Origin Member Portal subscription. Giving or holding portal access is in Grant or revoke member portal access.

Register animals

Open Registry → Registration → Register animal. Enter the animals, review the batch, and submit them for approval. The fee from Member Fees is charged when the registration is approved, and the request appears under To Process. The steps are in Register a new animal.

After an animal is in the registry:

Take payments

Open Financials → Invoices to build an invoice from unpaid charges. Open a member and select Payments to send their dues or record a payment. The steps are in Create an invoice and Bill a member.

Applications, registrations, and transfers wait under To Process until a staff member approves them.
